ABOUT US

Client 1 - Thermal Efficiency

Thermal Efficiency is achieved by using heavy weight building materials like concrete, bricks (mud, form block, clay) and timbercrete to achieve high thermal mass. During the day the sun's heat is absorbed into the thermally efficient building material taking heat out of the rooms and cooling it. Over night the heat in the thermally efficient building material is released into the rooms keeping the temperature constant.

This home is made of timbercrete which is shaving of timber set in cement and formed into blocks that are usually 200mm thick. This home also has a solid timbercrete wall that runs through the centre of the house. The clerestory windows allow direct sunlight to hit this wall and enable it's thermal efficient properties.

Client 2 - Energy Efficient

Energy Efficiency is achieved by using insulation, solar power  and draft-proofing to achieve minimum power consumption. Hebel power panel is excellent insulator that is used in conjunction with insulation batts to achieve an R5 insulation rating. Solar panels operate more effectively when facing northwest. An energy efficient house has the bulk of roof area facing in this direction. Draft-proofing involves having tightly fitted and sealed windows and doors; and to use a vestibule at the main entrance as an airlock.

This home is made of insulated double brick. The insulation was pumped in between the two brick walls. The solar panels provide power to the grid, reducing electricity bills. All doors and windows in this home are tightly fitted and sealed.

Client 3 - Bush Fire Resistance

Bush Fire Resistance is achieved by using flame resistant hardwood frames on double glazed windows, mini corrugated panels on top and brick underneath part of dwelling, concrete floor/stairs with flame resistant hardwood handrail, steel handrails and balustrades, adequate water tanks exclusively for fire fighting and/or Sycon Linea cladding in lieu of timber weatherboard. Sycon Linea cladding is a fibre cement board that is non combustible.

This home is made of Sycon Linea cladding on top and brick underneath. The windows are double glazed and flame zone proof. There is no external timber on this home at all because it is in a bush fire flame zone.
