Tips to make your path to property-ownership a little smoother…
1. Don’t skimp on an Inspection
It may seem like an added expense at an already costly time, but a thorough building and pest inspection is worth every dollar. It can literally save you thousands (even tens of thousands) down the line.
With an average Blue Mountains home costing just under half a million dollars, your new property is far too big an investment to take unnecessary risks. Have the property thoroughly assessed before you commit to buy at the stated price.
2. Choose carefully
You wouldn’t get a medical check from anyone but an experienced medical practitioner. Likewise, only trust an experienced building professional to conduct your building inspection or pest inspection.
Choose a qualified and licensed Building & Pest Inspector – ideally someone with extensive, hands-on building experience. This will help ensure a comprehensive, practical report.
3. Check that your Inspector is insured
Always check that your proposed Building Inspector has Professional Indemnity Insurance. While the building inspection industry is largely unregulated, only suitably experienced individuals can attain Professional Indemnity Insurance as a Building Inspector. Checking that your Building Inspector has Professional Indemnity Insurance is a great way to “sort the wheat from the chaff”. It’s a good indication that they really know their stuff.
4. Make sure you get an Inspection Agreement
In line with current Australian Standards, a Building Inspector must provide you with an Inspection Agreement form, to be read and signed by both parties prior to the inspection. If booking with Beggs Building & Pest Inspections, you can access our Inspection Agreement form here.
